The Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed April 30, 2024, as the date for the by-election in Ejisu constituency, necessitated by the untimely death of the sitting Member of Parliament, John Kumah, on March 7, 2024.
The 45-year-old MP passed away after a brief illness, leaving behind a wife and six children.
Nine aspirants vying to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary primary in the constituency have been cleared by the vetting committee.
These aspirants had all filed for nominations within the stipulated period, which opened on April 2, 2024, and closed on April 4, 2024.
The NPP is set to elect its parliamentary candidate for the constituency on April 13, 2024.
As of now, no other political party has expressed interest in participating in the by-election.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated that it is still deliberating on whether to join the contest.
