The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has firmly stated that the 2024 Voters’ Register is dependable and trustworthy, advising the public to dismiss any allegations suggesting otherwise.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, the Commission underscored the credibility and accuracy of the Voters’ Register, assuring citizens that it is well-prepared for the 2024 General Elections.
This announcement comes in response to concerns raised by the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which claimed that the register contains errors that need to be addressed before the elections.
John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, also called on the EC to take immediate action to correct these issues, urging the Commission to ensure the electoral process remains fair and transparent.
Speaking at an event in Adjen Kotoku within the Amasaman constituency as part of his Greater Accra regional campaign on Wednesday, Mahama highlighted several problems with the register. He noted that many people are unable to find their names, some names have been transferred without the individuals’ consent, and instances of proxy registration without biometric cards have been reported. Additionally, he pointed out that names of individuals who registered multiple times are still present on the register.
Despite these claims, the EC reiterated, “The 2024 Voters Register is robust and credible. Disregard claims that the register is unfit for the 2024 Elections.”
