Jeff Konadu, the Eastern regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has encouraged party members to highlight the achievements of Inspector-General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, in their campaign for the 2024 election. Konadu believes that Dampare’s performance since assuming office is evident to anyone who observes objectively.
During an interview on Wontumi Radio, Konadu urged party members to refrain from associating the IGP with any political party and instead focus on the government’s accomplishments in the area of security through his leadership. He emphasized that if the government had not provided the necessary resources to the police, such achievements would not have been possible. He called on party members to capitalize on Dampare’s accomplishments rather than engaging in divisive politics that could hinder their chances of winning the election.
Konadu acknowledged that while political affiliations exist, it is crucial to concentrate on building a strong party base and ensuring it is capable of securing victory in the election. He commended Dampare for his commendable work as IGP and emphasized that he continues to make strides in his role.
Additionally, Konadu highlighted the achievements of both the IGP and the government. He questioned the importance of focusing on Dampare’s political allegiance, stating that the priority should be strengthening the party and allowing Dampare to carry out his duties effectively. Konadu praised the government for adequately equipping the police force, citing recent advancements such as the acquisition of helicopters and motorcycles. He credited Dampare’s efforts for implementing these improvements and emphasized that his work has led to a decline in armed robberies, specifically mentioning the successful deployment of police to the Afram Plains region, which put an end to rampant robberies affecting market-going women.
