The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced plans to open six international offices as part of a new strategy to address the growing issue of counterfeit licenses among Ghanaians living abroad.
The announcement came during the launch of the DVLA’s first 24-hour service center in Adentan, Accra, on May 7. The new facility offers full services including licensing and vehicle registration.
DVLA CEO Julius Neequaye Kotey revealed that initial operations will begin in Germany, the UK, the USA, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa, targeting areas with high concentrations of Ghanaian residents.
“We’ve already engaged some embassies and secured their support. These overseas offices will address licensing concerns directly and eliminate the use of fake documents,” Kotey said.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe, speaking on behalf of President Mahama, called on the DVLA to use the initiative to improve service delivery and enforce road safety standards both locally and internationally.
