Dreams FC Progress to CAF Confederations Cup Knockout Stages Despite Defeat to Rivers United

Ghana’s Dreams FC secured a historic spot in the knockout stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, despite suffering a 2-1 defeat against Nigeria’s Rivers United on Sunday, March 3. The FA Cup champions, Dreams FC, and Rivers United both emerged as the top teams in Group C, earning them direct entry into the quarterfinals.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Dreams FC, as they become the first Ghana Premier League club in the last decade to advance to the knockout stages of the CAF Confederation Cup. Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak were the last Ghanaian clubs to achieve this feat back in the 2004 season.

Dreams FC demonstrated composure away from home, knowing that a draw or narrow defeat would be enough to secure their spot in the next round. They took the lead in the 40th minute through Abdul Aziz Issah, whose skillful finish put them ahead on the away goals rule.

Despite Rivers United’s efforts to mount a comeback, they only managed to equalize in the 60th minute before securing a late winner in stoppage time. Dreams FC’s resilience and tactical discipline throughout the match were evident as they held on to secure their historic progression in the competition.

The “still believe boys” of Dreams FC have now set their sights on further historic achievements as they continue to represent Ghana with pride on the continental stage.
