The President of Ghana has appointed Dr. Naomi Wolali Kwetey as the new Managing Director of Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), with her appointment taking effect from March 26, 2025. This was confirmed in an official letter signed by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and sighted by Citi Business News.
Dr. Kwetey, a seasoned finance professional, brings over 25 years of experience in the banking sector. Her areas of expertise span corporate relationship management, treasury operations, credit administration, branch banking, marketing, and operational risk management.
Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Ghana, an MBA in International Banking and Finance from The Birmingham Business School, and a Doctorate in Business Administration and Management from Nobel International Business (NiBS) University.
In a related appointment, the letter also named Sheila Azuntaba as the Deputy Managing Director of CBG. Prior to this, Ms. Azuntaba was the founder of Innovative Microfinance Ltd. She previously served as Assistant Vice President at Citigroup’s Global Transaction Services Unit in Nigeria, where she contributed significantly to product development and sales strategies tailored to local markets.
Her distinguished career includes roles in Kenya and Ghana, where she managed large financial portfolios in both investment and commercial banking. Ms. Azuntaba holds an MBA in Finance from The Strathclyde Business School in Glasgow, and a BA (Hons) in Marketing from the University of Westminster, London. She also holds the title of Miss Ghana 1996 and is well-known for her work in empowering marginalized and financially excluded communities, especially women.
The Finance Minister has directed that CBG regularize the appointments in accordance with the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) and the bank’s internal constitution.
