This qualification is particularly significant as it marks the nation’s first appearance at the World Cup since 1974, when it competed as Zaire. The team has now been drawn into a challenging Group K alongside Colombia national football team, Portugal national football team, and Uzbekistan national football team.

Meanwhile, Iraq also secured qualification after a 2-1 victory over Bolivia, marking its first World Cup appearance since 1986.

The Leopards’ qualification has been widely celebrated as a unifying national moment, boosting morale and highlighting the growing strength of African football on the global stage.
