Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially launched Ghana’s new Digital Border Control System and e-gates at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra. The groundbreaking system, introduced on December 3, 2024, was developed locally, marking a significant leap in modernizing the nation’s border management.
The system incorporates artificial intelligence, biometrics, and real-time data processing to streamline airport procedures. Holders of the Ghanacard can now use the e-gates for quick, automated entry without requiring manual immigration checks. Additionally, members of the diaspora and international visitors can pre-register their biometric and travel details for a seamless experience.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized Ghana’s leadership in integrating biometric verification and Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs) on a single platform, positioning the country as a global pioneer in intelligent border control.
“I am excited that our country has, once again, demonstrated that it is possible to attain global standards through systems designed and built by Ghanaians,” he remarked.
This initiative enhances travel efficiency, strengthens border security, and aligns Ghana with cutting-edge global travel technologies.
