Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, has been appointed as the Majority Leader for Ghana’s 9th Parliament. The decision reflects the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus’s resolution to retain its leadership team from the 8th Parliament for the new legislative session.
Dr. Forson will be supported by Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle, who transitions from Deputy Minority Leader to Deputy Majority Leader. Governs Kwame Agbodza, MP for Adaklu, has been named the Majority Chief Whip, continuing his critical role in legislative coordination. Ahmed Ibrahim, MP for Banda, has also advanced from Deputy Minority Chief Whip to Deputy Majority Chief Whip, maintaining continuity in the party’s parliamentary leadership.
These appointments align with the recommendation of President-elect John Dramani Mahama for the NDC caucus to nominate Alban Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament. Bagbin, who previously served as Speaker during the 8th Parliament, has been a stabilizing and unifying figure within the legislative house.
The NDC’s decision to retain its front bench leadership was finalized during a caucus meeting held shortly after the 8th Parliament’s dissolution at midnight on January 6, 2025. This move underscores the party’s confidence in its current leadership to address the challenges of the upcoming parliamentary term.
