Dodzie Numekevor, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has been removed from his position after only six months in office.
The decision was made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who issued a directive for Numekevor’s termination on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
A letter from the Secretary to the President, Ambassador Nana Bediatuo Asante, confirmed the termination, though no specific reasons were provided.
Numekevor has been instructed to hand over his duties to the Chairman of the NSA Governing Board.
The announcement comes at a time when Numekevor is actively engaged in political activities, having filed his nomination to contest the Sege constituency parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During his brief tenure, Numekevor faced challenges with the management of Ghana’s sports infrastructure.
The Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the country’s primary venue for international football matches, recently lost its approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) due to several technical issues, including an unsuitable playing field.
This decision followed CAF’s inspection after the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Ghana and Angola on September 5, 2024.
