The Eastern Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has informed that there have been two new occurrences of Dengue Fever, bringing the total number of cases to 11.
On July 14, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) declared an outbreak of clinical malaria, known as Dengue Fever, in several districts within the Eastern Region.
The GHS confirmed nine cases following the dispatch of samples to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).
Initially detected in three districts and municipalities, Dengue Fever has since spread to five districts, including Birim Central, Birim North, Akyemansa, Birim South, and Achiase.
Speaking at a press briefing in the regional capital of Koforidua on Monday, Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Winfred Ofosu, disclosed that the number of cases is anticipated to rise. He noted that the directorate is awaiting results from an additional 57 samples sent to NMIMR.
“Eleven cases have been confirmed by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research. The region expects updates from the processing of 57 additional samples. Currently, the region is managing 103 suspected cases,” Dr. Ofosu stated. “Initially, there were nine confirmed cases. Subsequent tests revealed two positive cases.”
Dr. Ofosu assured the public of the Ghana Health Service’s preparedness to combat the disease and urged residents in affected districts to seek medical attention promptly if they display symptoms of Dengue fever.
