Nigerian music sensation Davido has instructed his legal team to pursue legal action against a media outlet responsible for a misguided April Fool’s prank that has backfired.
The hoax, initially circulated by Kenya’s K24 TV on April 1st, falsely claimed that the Afrobeats star had been arrested in Kenya following the discovery of cocaine on his private jet.
In response to the unfounded report, Davido, who had just concluded a successful East African tour, vehemently refuted the claims as “entirely untrue” and condemned the act as “extremely irresponsible.”
“I have never been arrested in any country for any crime in the world,” Davido clarified on social media. “Not in my home country Nigeria, not in my home in America, nor in any of the numerous countries I’ve visited throughout my career,” he added in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Following the publication of the April Fool’s story by Kenya’s K24 TV, it quickly gained traction on social media platforms. The false narrative prompted a flood of inquiries and concerns, forcing Davido to publicly deny any arrest and confirm his safe return to Nigeria.
“I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely baseless. I completed my scheduled performances in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria,” Davido reassured his fans.
Expressing his dismay at the fabrication of such serious allegations under the guise of April Fools’, Davido stated that his legal team is taking action against the media entities responsible for spreading misinformation.
