Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Assin South MP and former Deputy Education Minister, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, at the Accra High Court.
The legal action stems from a post Rev. Fordjour made on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on May 8, 2025. In the post, Fordjour questioned payments allegedly made while the opposition party held minority positions in Parliament, implicating Dafeamekpor in the matter.
Describing the claims as “false and malicious,” Dafeamekpor stated that he was not a member of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee at the time the supposed incident occurred in December 2023. He accused Fordjour of acting with “reckless disregard for the truth.”
The South Dayi MP claims the publication has seriously harmed his reputation, led to economic losses, and exposed him to public ridicule. As part of the suit, he is seeking over GH₵30 million in damages, including aggravated and punitive damages.
Dafeamekpor is also asking the court to issue a declaration that the statements were defamatory, along with an interlocutory and perpetual injunction preventing further such publications. He is demanding a full retraction and a public apology to be published in print and on social media.
