COVID-19 Resurfaces at University of Ghana as Health Directorate Issues Public Alert

The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate has issued an urgent notice alerting the university community to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases on campus.

According to the communique dated June 23, 2025, a few suspected and confirmed cases of the virus have been reported in the university’s immediate vicinity. In response, the Directorate is urging all staff, students, and visitors to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread.

These measures include the proper wearing of face masks, frequent handwashing with soap under running water or the use of alcohol-based sanitizers, maintaining physical distancing of at least one metre, avoiding large gatherings, ensuring good ventilation in enclosed spaces, and staying home when experiencing flu-like symptoms.

The Directorate announced the reactivation of its COVID-19 Response Protocols, which cover screening and triage measures at health facilities on campus. It also assured the community that the situation is being closely monitored, with regular updates to be provided.
