The High Court has revoked the arrest warrant it issued earlier for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The decision came shortly after Wontumi appeared in court with his legal team to address the warrant, which had been issued earlier in the morning around 9:40 a.m. The order remained in effect until he arrived after 10 a.m. to request its withdrawal. It was officially rescinded at 11:39 a.m.
Counsel for Chairman Wontumi, Andy Appiah-Kubi, explained that his client had been informed to appear at 10 a.m. under the assumption that the court session was scheduled for a case management conference at that time.
The presiding judge, after considering the explanation, withdrew the arrest warrant but cautioned Chairman Wontumi to ensure punctuality in all future court appearances.
Chairman Wontumi is currently standing trial alongside Kwame Antwi, a director of Akonta Mining Limited, and the company itself. They are facing charges of assigning mineral rights without lawful authorization.
