The District Court at La has directed police prosecutors to provide a hospital report confirming the age of the final-year student from O’Reilly Senior High School accused of fatally stabbing a classmate. The order came on Thursday, September 19, 2024, following a request by the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei, who indicated that the report would be ready by Friday, September 20.
The accused, whose identity remains undisclosed, allegedly murdered Edward Borketey Sackey following a disagreement about whose parents were wealthier.
While a post-mortem report has been completed and blood samples of the accused have been taken, the court refused a request for a one-week adjournment.
Magistrate Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi emphasized that a case of such public interest should not be delayed, questioning the prosecution’s handling of the two-week adjournment since the last court appearance.
The hospital report will help clarify the accused’s age, which has been contested, with some sources claiming he is 24 years old and others suggesting 18.
The court expects the report to be submitted by 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
The accused has been provisionally charged with murder, though his plea has not yet been taken.
