The Madina District Court has discharged Mam Yandey Joof, who was standing trial in connection with the death of Benett Agyekum Adomah, also known as Kikibee. Joof, a hotelier and girlfriend of the deceased, was discharged following the advice of the Office of the Attorney General.
The prosecution informed the court that they had received advice from the Attorney General to discharge the accused person. In accordance with this advice, the court, presided over by Susana Nyarkotey, discharged Joof, stating that “they found no fault with you.”
Mam Yandey Joof, who was on GHC200,000 bail, wept uncontrollably as she was whisked away by her relatives into a waiting vehicle. Joof was facing a charge of murder following the death of her boyfriend, Kikibee, the owner of Kikibee restaurant.
The brief facts of the case presented to the district court by the police stated that the deceased, Bennet Agyekum Adomah, aged 40, was the owner of KIKIBEES Restaurant and Lounge. The suspect, Mam Yandeh, aged 31, is a Gambian and a hotelier living in Ghana. The deceased and the suspect were in an amorous relationship for the past three years.
On the evening of 7 October 2023, the deceased arrived at his residence at East Legon from the airport around 6 pm. Later in the night, around 8 pm, he left the house to go to the Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge at East Legon. At about 12.30 am on 8 October 2023, the deceased left the restaurant to visit the suspect in her apartment at Ogbojo.
Later in the night, at about 1.30 am, the deceased started behaving strangely and throwing things in the room while shouting that some people were chasing him. The other tenants in the house were awoken by the noise. The suspect called a close friend of the deceased for assistance, but when the friend arrived, he found the deceased lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen.
The tenants in the house assisted in taking him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Pieces of broken ceramic glass with bloodstains were found in the apartment, and a cut was found on the left thumb of the deceased during inspection at the scene.
With the discharge of Mam Yandey Joof, the circumstances surrounding Kikibee’s death remain a mystery, and the case has been closed by the court.
