The Accra Circuit Court has denied bail to Wontumi TV presenter Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare, who was arrested for linking President John Mahama to the August 6 military helicopter crash that killed eight people.
Kofi Asare was arrested on Tuesday, August 12, after making the on-air comments, which police described as unsubstantiated. The crash in the Adansi Akrofoum District of the Ashanti Region has prompted national mourning, with a state funeral set for Friday, August 15.
In court on Thursday, the judge ordered that the accused be remanded into police custody for further investigation, rejecting his legal team’s bail application.
Defence lawyer Enoch Anhwere Afoakwah criticised the ruling as a miscarriage of justice and vowed to appeal the decision at the High Court.
