Court Denies Bail for 28 Suspects in Alleged Kidnapping of Abetifihene

The Mpraeso Circuit Court has denied a bail request for 28 individuals accused of involvement in the alleged kidnapping of the Abetifihene, Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III. The suspects, remanded on November 8, reportedly stormed the Abetifi Palace in an attempt to destool the chief, who currently acts as President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.

The bail application, filed by their lawyer, Nkrabea Effah Dartey, was rejected by the court on Thursday, November 14, with Her Lordship Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu ordering their continued remand in police custody until their next appearance on November 27, 2024.

Speaking to Adom News, Dartey expressed disappointment in the court’s decision. In contrast, Nana Saka Darko, a spokesperson for the Abetifi Palace, supported the ruling, emphasizing the importance of ongoing investigations.

The group, initially thought to be National Security operatives by local residents, was reportedly led by Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, the Abrewatia of Kwahu, to the palace, where they allegedly detained Asiedu Agyemang III.
