Commercial transport unions have suspended their planned nationwide strike, originally set for Tuesday, June 10, 2025, which was organized to protest the newly imposed GHC1 levy on petroleum products.

The strike was called off following discussions with the Ministry of Transport, where government officials assured the unions that the levy would not result in increased fuel prices.

Samuel Amoah, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), explained that the unions will closely monitor the situation until September.

“If fuel prices remain stable by then, we won’t need to take further action. But should prices rise and operational costs increase, we will reconsider our stance,” Amoah said.

With these assurances, the unions have officially called off the strike for now.
