The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana has announced a nationwide strike, directing its members in the Civil Service and Local Government Service to stay at home beginning Monday, March 9, 2026.
In a notice dated March 5 and signed by Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, the association said the decision follows unresolved negotiations between the union and government authorities.
According to the notice, the strike action was triggered after the association’s National Executive Council earlier warned that members would embark on an industrial action if outstanding issues were not addressed.
CLOGSAG stated that since the concerns remain unresolved, all members across the country have been instructed to comply fully with the directive and remain at home until further notice.
Background to the strike
The planned strike stems from delays in implementing a unique salary structure and improved conditions of service for staff in the Civil Service and Local Government Service.
The association said the proposed salary structure was expected to take effect from January 1, 2025, but has yet to be implemented.
CLOGSAG also indicated that negotiations on the matter date back to 2019, during which two separate Memoranda of Understanding were signed with government authorities.
However, the association claims these agreements remain unfulfilled despite several reminders issued through the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
The association says the nationwide industrial action is intended to pressure authorities to honour the agreements and address the long-standing concerns of its members.
