The Christian Mothers Association of Ghana has issued a strong statement condemning the recent suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo by President John Mahama.
The association expressed deep concern over the move, describing it as a dangerous precedent that could jeopardize the foundation of Ghana’s democracy.
In the statement released on Tuesday, the group likened the action to a biblical warning from Proverbs 29:2, stressing that justice and righteousness are essential to national peace and progress.
They emphasized that the suspension of the Chief Justice undermines the integrity of the country’s judicial system and could erode public trust in democratic institutions.
The association called on Ghanaians and the international community to speak out against the decision. “It is crucial that we hold our leaders accountable,” the statement read, quoting the popular proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The group urged citizens to unite in defense of democracy and the rule of law.
The Christian Mothers Association further appealed to President Mahama to reconsider his decision, emphasizing that true leadership must be grounded in integrity and respect for legal principles.
