 Chairman Wontumi Leads NPP Delegation to Manhyia Palace  

In response to escalating tensions and concerns over alleged disparaging comments attributed to him, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, led a delegation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the Manhyia Palace. The visit aimed to engage with the Kumasi Traditional Council and address issues arising from the controversial remarks.

The high-profile delegation included Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah, Chieftaincy Minister Asamoah Boateng, Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, National Chairman of the NPP Stephen Ntim, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, NPP National Treasurer Dr. Charles Dwamena, and various other NPP regional executives.

The purpose of the meeting was to seek clarification and resolution regarding Chairman Wontumi’s alleged derogatory remarks against the Asantehene during a recent altercation with the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, at the parliamentary aspirants’ vetting in the Ashanti region.

The Kumasi Traditional Council, the second-highest decision-making body within the Asante Kingdom, had issued a directive for Chairman Wontumi to appear before them following the controversy. The council, comprising traditional leaders, sought clarification on the alleged remarks that strained the relationship between Chairman Wontumi and the Asantehene.

The outcome of this meeting holds significant implications for Chairman Wontumi, as the Kumasi Traditional Council seeks to address the concerns raised by the alleged derogatory comments. The NPP, represented by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, was directed to produce Chairman Wontumi for a hearing during a directive issued on Thursday, January 22, 2024.
