Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.

In a statement dated February 4, 2026, Chairman Wontumi said his decision follows deep reflection, consultations with party elders, and spiritual guidance. He stressed that his move is driven by a desire to strengthen, rebuild, and unify the New Patriotic Party at a critical moment in its history.

“Our party has faced challenges and learned hard lessons along the way. At this critical moment, the NPP demands leadership that is steady, principled, and committed to unity,” the statement read.

Chairman Wontumi described the kind of leadership he believes the party needs as one rooted in the grassroots, inclusive of all party members—from elders to the youth—and ready to make sacrifices for the collective good of the party.

Declaring his intention to serve as National Chairman, he emphasised that his ambition is not personal but centred on restoring confidence within the party and positioning it for electoral success ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“The road ahead will demand vision, courage, and unwavering determination. Leadership at this moment requires bravery—the courage to stand firm, make difficult decisions, and be willing to lose everything if necessary for the NPP,” he stated.
