The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision was taken by the GFA Executive Council in consultation with key stakeholders, bringing in the highly experienced Portuguese coach to lead Ghana’s campaign at the tournament in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Queiroz has a strong World Cup record, having guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
He has also coached several national teams, including Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, as well as top clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United.
The new coach is expected to begin work immediately as he prepares the Black Stars for the competition, which kicks off on June 11, 2026.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.
His appointment is seen as a major step toward strengthening the team as Ghana aims to make an impact on the global stage.
