Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has expressed his frustration with Ghana following the ban on Baba Yara Stadium.
Last week, CAF withdrew the stadium’s approval for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers, citing issues such as uneven playing surfaces, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover.
During a press briefing in Nairobi, Kenya, Motsepe emphasized the negative impact of such bans on football growth, stating, “Nothing frustrates me more than a national team or club side having to play home matches outside.”
He highlighted the importance of teams playing in front of home fans to foster the development of football.
As a result of the ban, Ghana, which now lacks a stadium fit to host a CAF category C match, may have to hold its crucial October AFCON qualifier against Sudan in Togo or Côte d’Ivoire.
