CAF Increases AFCON 2023 Prize Money by 40%

In an official announcement made on Thursday, January 4th, 2024, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed a substantial 40% surge in the prize money awarded to the victors of AFCON 2023.

This considerable increment in the prize allocation signals the remarkable advancements achieved by the tournament since its 33rd edition held in Cameroon. CAF, the foremost governing body for football in Africa, is dedicated to ensuring that the 34th edition stands out as a memorable event, continuing its tradition of excellence.

The champions of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations will now receive an impressive $7 million, while the runners-up will take home $4 million. Teams securing the third and fourth positions will each earn $2.5 million, and even the quarter-finalists will be awarded $1.3 million.

Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of CAF, elaborated on the significance of the augmented prize money following its public disclosure. Dr. Motsepe underscored the progress CAF has accomplished over the past two years, stating, “We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7,000,000, which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money. I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations.”
