The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the Accra Sports Stadium to host the upcoming TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Matchday 3 qualifier between Ghana and Sudan.
This decision follows CAF’s earlier directive for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to identify an alternative venue after the Baba Yara Stadium’s temporary approval was revoked. CAF communicated the approval in a statement to the GFA’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo.
The statement noted, “Following a comprehensive review of the CAF independent inspection reports regarding the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadia, we are pleased to inform you that the Accra Sports Stadium has been approved to host the AFCON Qualifiers for Morocco 2025. Specifically, it will host the Group F – Matchday 3 encounter between Ghana and Sudan, scheduled for 11 October 2024.”
CAF also urged the GFA and stadium management to prioritise necessary enhancements to the pitch and other essential areas to ensure a smooth experience for both teams and fans. The confederation will closely monitor the stadium’s readiness ahead of the match and for future events under CAF’s jurisdiction.
The Ghana vs Sudan fixture is set for Friday, October 11, 2024.
