Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, is mourning the loss of their Physical Trainer, Romeo Ricky Roy, who passed away on Sunday, April 28, in Accra. The details surrounding his death are currently unclear.
Roy gained widespread attention in 2020 when he saved the life of a player during a Division One League match between Vision FC and Agbozume Weavers. He later joined the Black Stars’ backroom staff in 2021.
During his time with the national team, Roy worked closely with Milovan Rajevac during his second tenure in charge and supervised the team’s physical training sessions in Qatar for the World Cup 2022 and in Abidjan for the AFCON 2023.
