Black Stars Climb 4 Places in Latest FIFA Rankings Following World Cup Qualifying Victories

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, have ascended four places in the latest FIFA rankings, now positioned at 64th globally. This advancement comes on the heels of their impressive World Cup qualifying wins against Mali and the Central African Republic.

Under the guidance of coach Otto Addo, the team demonstrated resilience, coming from behind to defeat Mali 2-1 and securing a thrilling 4-3 home victory against the Central African Republic. These successes have bolstered Ghana’s World Cup qualification chances and significantly improved their FIFA ranking, both on the global stage and within Africa.

In continental rankings, the Black Stars have moved up from 14th to 12th in Africa.

Globally, Argentina retains the top spot, reflecting their consistent strong performances. France remains in second place, while Belgium has climbed to third. England, previously third, has slipped to fourth.

The June rankings highlight a dynamic landscape, with significant movements due to the recent spate of international fixtures, including World Cup qualifiers and warm-up matches for various continental tournaments.

While the top three positions are stable, there has been some reshuffling beneath them. Brazil has moved up to fourth place, while England has dropped to fifth. Portugal, Netherlands, and Spain maintain their positions in the top ten, with Croatia edging past Italy for ninth place.

Positive movements continue throughout the rankings, with Mozambique, Madagascar, North Korea, Sudan, Nicaragua, and Gibraltar all being rewarded for their recent performances. Liberia, however, has made the most significant improvement, rising ten places and remaining undefeated throughout 2024.
