In preparation for their crucial match against Zambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, February 23, 2024, all outstanding bonuses owed to the Black Queens have been paid in full. The players had reportedly considered boycotting the game if their concerns were not addressed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association. Each player was owed $7500.
To address the situation, officials from both the Ministry and the FA visited the team camp on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, assuring the players that their bonuses would be settled before the Zambia game.
True to their word, the team’s bonuses were swiftly paid on Thursday, February 22, 2024, easing tensions in the camp ahead of the crucial match. The Black Queens, under coach Nora Hauptle, have been in outstanding form, losing just one game in their last 11 matches. However, they face a tough challenge from a strong Zambian side boasting the world’s most expensive player in women’s football, Racheal Kundananji.
Fans are expected to turn out in large numbers to support the Black Queens, as entrance to the stadium will be free. A victory for the Black Queens would give them a significant advantage heading into the second leg in Zambia, as they aim to secure a spot in the final qualifying round for the 2024 Olympic Games.
