Biography of Akua Donkor

Akua Donkor was a notable Ghanaian politician and the founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

Born in February 1952 in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region, she started her career as a cocoa farmer. Despite not having formal education, she made significant strides in public service, becoming an assemblywoman for Herman.

Her political journey was marked by her persistent ambition to become the President of Ghana. She first attempted to run for president in the 2012 elections as an independent candidate but was disqualified by the Electoral Commission.

She continued her efforts and founded the Ghana Freedom Party, which also faced disqualification in the 2016 elections. Despite these setbacks, she remained a vocal advocate for the rights of farmers and women, and her resilience earned her a place on the ballot for the 2020 presidential elections, where she finished fifth out of twelve candidates.

Akua Donkor’s campaign promises included free education from primary to secondary levels, the elimination of import taxes, and the establishment of a free zone at the port of Tema to attract more businesses.

She was known for her bold and outspoken nature, which helped her capture public attention and significantly impact grassroots communities.

Sadly, Akua Donkor passed away on October 28, 2024, at the age of 72. Her legacy as a passionate advocate for marginalized communities and her contributions to Ghanaian politics are remembered by many.
