Ben Ephson Predicts Bawumia’s Running Mate Will come From the Ashanti Region

Renowned political analyst and Managing Editor for the Daily Dispatch Newspaper, Ben Ephson, has made a prediction regarding the choice of a running mate for Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming elections. Ephson suggests that the running mate will likely be selected from Members of Parliament hailing from the Ashanti region, a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This strategic move aims to secure and bolster the party’s support in the region, enhancing their chances in the 2024 elections.

During an appearance on the GTV Breakfast Show, Ephson listed three potential candidates from the Ashanti region for the running mate position. These include the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, the Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu, and the Energy Minister, Hon. Martin Opoku Prempeh.

Explaining his rationale, Ephson highlighted the importance of solidifying votes in the party’s stronghold. He emphasized that while competition may be fierce in other regions such as Greater Accra, Western, and Central, it is crucial to maximize support in the Ashanti region.

However, Ephson omitted the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, from his list of potential candidates. According to Ephson, the chosen running mate should be someone easily accessible to supporters in the Ashanti region. Based on his information, he does not believe that Dr. Adutwum is among the three individuals he listed.

In related developments, on November 4, 2023, Dr. Bawumia successfully cleared the first hurdle on his path to the presidency. He emerged as the flagbearer of the NPP, securing over 61 percent of the delegates’ vote across the country. This victory further solidifies his position as a frontrunner in the upcoming elections.
