The Ankobeahene of the Begoro Stool, Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, finds himself embroiled in a potential destoolment saga following accusations of endorsing National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

Summoned by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, the Ankobeahene faces scrutiny for allegedly engaging in partisan politics, a charge brought forth in a petition lodged against him by Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, Otweresohene/Odau, and Okyeame Owusu.

The petition contends that Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II’s purported endorsement of Mahama during the former President’s campaign tour of the Eastern Region has tarnished the reputation of the Begoro Stool.

Allegedly representing the Nananom and the people of Begoro, the chief is accused of endorsing Mahama while also invoking ancestral spirits against the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s “breaking the 8” mantra and cautioning against purported vote-rigging schemes.

Confirmed by Abuakwa Traditional State Secretary Dan Marfo Ofori Attah, the summons includes demands for the Ankobeahene’s destoolment, a nullification of his conduct, a public retraction of his alleged statements, an apology to the petitioners and Begoro citizens, and potential customary sanctions if found guilty.

Originally scheduled for February 12, 2024, the hearing has been postponed to February 19, 2024, signaling the gravity of the matter at hand.
