The government has announced a significant reform to the school placement process, with candidates sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) now expected to select their preferred Senior High Schools only after the release of their results.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, April 1, Haruna Iddrisu said the new policy is part of efforts to strengthen the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and enable students to make more informed decisions.
Under the new arrangement, candidates will be given a mandatory one-week period after the release of results to choose and confirm their preferred schools based on their academic performance.
According to the minister, the previous system required students to select schools before knowing their aggregate scores, a situation that often created placement challenges.
“In the past, students selected schools without knowing their aggregate, and that affected the placement system. This time, we will provide a mandatory period of one week after results are declared for students to confirm their choices based on their performance,” he explained.
The Education Minister expressed confidence that the revised system will improve fairness, reduce difficulties associated with school placement, and enhance the overall efficiency of admissions into Senior High Schools across Ghana.
The policy is expected to help students make more realistic and strategic school choices that align with their performance, thereby improving placement outcomes nationwide.
