Bogoso Explosion: Vice President Bawumia Leads Delegation To Ascertain State Affairs After Gas Explosion

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has visited traders affected by the devastating fire that broke out at Adum in Kumasi on March 21, destroying dozens of shops and goods worth millions of Ghana cedis.

During his visit, Dr. Bawumia met with affected traders, many of whom broke down in tears as they recounted how they lost their livelihoods in just a few hours. They pleaded for assistance to rebuild their businesses.

In response, Dr. Bawumia expressed his sympathy and urged patience as the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) investigates the cause of the fire to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

“We have to wait on the investigation by the Ghana National Fire Service and then we can determine the cause of the fire so that next time we can prevent it,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia also called on the government to expedite the completion of the Kejetia Central Market Phase II project, which he noted was about 80% complete when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) left office.

 

  • “I also want to appeal to the government to complete Phase II of the Kejetia Central Market, which was about 80% complete at the time we left office. We believe that when it is completed, it is going to help the traders here.”

Dr. Bawumia commended the firefighters for their swift response, noting that their efforts helped contain the blaze and prevent further destruction. He also acknowledged reports that two firefighters had been hospitalized and wished them a speedy recovery.

“I want to commend the efforts of the fire service personnel. They have done their best to contain the fire. I heard about two fire personnel who have been admitted to the hospital, we wish them speedy recovery,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by the regional chairman of the NPP, Bernard Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), and other party officials during his visit.
