Bawumia Nominates Opoku Prempeh as Running Mate to Akufo-Addo

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has recommended Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the current Energy Minister and known as NAPO, as his running mate to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Sources from the presidency revealed to Citi News that a meeting took place on Tuesday night where Dr. Bawumia sought President Akufo-Addo’s counsel regarding his selection of a running mate.

During this meeting, President Akufo-Addo offered his advice, expressed his opinions, and ultimately endorsed Dr. Bawumia’s choice.

In proposing NAPO, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the candidate is a 56-year-old medical doctor who graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Dr. Opoku Prempeh was first elected to Parliament in 2008 and has been re-elected in 2012, 2016, and 2020.

Numerous polls have indicated that Opoku Prempeh is the favored candidate for running mate among NPP party executives ahead of the 2024 general elections.
