Osahene Owusu Ntow IV, the Krontihene of the Anum traditional area, has labeled Vice President Bawumia as a ‘conman,’ accusing him of deceptive tactics that swayed public opinion during the 2016 elections. The traditional leader, who initially supported the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed his disillusionment with the Vice President’s promises and claimed that his persuasive communication skills were nothing more than “sweet talks.”
“I didn’t know His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia was more of a conman than me. He deceived us into voting for him. He consequently graded our road but the road is in its worst condition. We don’t need anything, we don’t need toilet, water all what we are asking is our roads,” lamented Osahene Owusu Ntow.
This unexpected shift in allegiance comes ahead of the 2024 elections, with the traditional leader withdrawing his support for the NPP based on his perceived disappointment with the current administration.
In a further twist, Osahene Owusu Ntow IV issued a public apology to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, for actively campaigning against him during the 2016 general election. The traditional leader confessed to being among the vocal traditional figures who opposed and rejected former President Mahama and his government. This opposition arose from a declaration of support for the NDC leader by a chief in Akwamu.
“A certain Chief in Akwamu endorsed President Mahama, claiming that all the chiefs in Anum support him. I went on radio to debunk the claim that we all support him. I am that chief who did that but your Excellency, forgive me my sins,” he humbly begged.
During the “Building Ghana Tour” in the Eastern Region, Osahene Owusu Ntow welcomed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, signaling a significant realignment of political alliances in the region. The traditional leader’s actions underscore the dynamic nature of political loyalties and the importance of addressing community concerns for continued support.
