The ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict has escalated further, with the death toll reaching 54 after fresh attacks in Walewale and Bawku.
On February 13, 2025, armed assailants ambushed a passenger bus traveling from Kumasi to Garu. The attack, which occurred in front of the ADB Bank in Walewale, resulted in the deaths of two passengers, while the bus was set ablaze.
This incident follows a similar attack on February 11 near Wulugu on the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, where three passengers were killed, and their vehicle was also burned.
Meanwhile, in Bawku, three more individuals lost their lives in a gun battle on February 12, intensifying the already volatile situation.
The latest casualties add to the growing number of fatalities since the resurgence of the conflict in October 2024.
Security agencies are on high alert, but concerns remain about the deteriorating situation and the need for urgent intervention to restore peace in the region.
