The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament has granted approval for the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to interrogate two Members of Parliament (MPs), Mustapha Yussif and Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus.

The two MPs have been directed to appear before NIB officials on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The interrogation will take place at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room within the premises of Parliament.

This development was confirmed in a letter dated April 2, 2025, and signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror. The letter referenced a request from the NIB, dated March 25, 2025, seeking the release of Mustapha Yussif, MP for Yagaba Kubori Constituency, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), MP for Gomoa Central Constituency, for questioning.

Citing Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the Speaker’s directive considers the legal framework governing parliamentary privileges and security agency interactions. The letter stated that Parliament, in principle, agrees to the NIB’s request while ensuring the MPs’ rights are upheld.

“The Rt. Hon. Speaker has directed the Honourable Members to make themselves available for the preliminary interaction with your officials in Parliament, on Monday, 7th April 2025 at 10.00 AM at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room, Office of the Speaker,” a portion of the letter read.

Additionally, the letter emphasized that the MPs have been advised to appear with their legal representatives. NIB officials are expected to coordinate with the Legal Services Office upon their arrival for the meeting.

However, the letter did not disclose the specific reasons for the NIB’s interest in interrogating the two MPs, leaving room for speculation regarding the nature of the inquiry.

This development has sparked widespread interest, with political analysts and members of the public eager to understand the implications of the interrogation. While some speculate that the inquiry could be linked to political controversies, others believe it may involve national security concerns.

Neither Mustapha Yussif nor Kwame Asare Obeng has publicly commented on the issue yet. It remains to be seen how this investigation unfolds and whether further details will emerge regarding the reasons behind the NIB’s request.
