Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has condemned the brutal killing of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), describing the act as “gruesome” and “dastardly.”
Mr. Akugri was reportedly shot and burned in Nangodi, a community near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 20, Ayariga extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, calling him a “comrade,” and urged security agencies to swiftly investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also appealed to the public to remain calm and support ongoing peace efforts spearheaded by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to restore stability in the Bawku area.
Ayariga commended the youth of Bawku for their recent restraint and reiterated the need to protect the progress made toward peace.
