The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has called on anti-corruption agencies across Africa to be transparent in their investigations, especially when allegations of corruption against public officials turn out to be false.
Speaking at the 14th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa in Accra, he emphasized the importance of disclosing the full results of investigations to boost public confidence and reduce distrust in government officials.
Mr. Dame highlighted that not every public office holder is corrupt, urging investigative bodies to avoid sensationalism and disclose unfounded or baseless corruption allegations.
He emphasized the need for honesty and integrity in the fight against corruption, stating that transparency is essential for eradicating corruption.
The conference, held in collaboration with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), and the Office of the Special Prosecutor, aimed to discuss innovative strategies to combat corruption.
Mr. Dame praised Ghana’s efforts in promoting transparency, citing the passage of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), and the amendment of the Whistleblower Act, 2006 (Act 720), to introduce a reward system for whistleblowers.
