Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed that he ordered the arrest of former Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Board Chairman, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was apprehended by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on February 23, 2025, at Kawukudi, near Nima in the Greater Accra Region. The arrest is part of an investigation into financial matters related to his role as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
During a media interview on Monday, March 3, Dr. Ayine acknowledged his involvement, stating, “Yes, I did.” He further revealed that during questioning, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi admitted that “$2 million was paid for no work done.”
The Attorney General emphasized that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the payment and identify other individuals who may have been involved.
According to Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, the arrest occurred when a group of men in three pickups arrived at his residence. Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi voluntarily accompanied them to the NIB head office before being transferred to the bureau’s Kawukudi offices in Accra.
The development has sparked public interest as authorities continue to probe the financial transactions linked to the GIIF.
