A tragic bus crash on a mountain road in Bolivia has claimed the lives of more than 30 people, according to local police reports.
The accident occurred in the southwestern district of Yocalla, where the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge nearly 800 meters (2,625 feet).
14 people sustained injuries, including four children, according to local hospital officials.
Police suspect speeding played a role, as the driver was reportedly unable to control the bus, said Colonel Victor Benavides.
The crash happened between the cities of Potosí and Oruro, in an area known for treacherous mountain roads.
This is the worst road accident recorded in Bolivia this year. Just last month, 19 people died in another bus crash near Potosí.
On average, 1,400 people die annually in road accidents across Bolivia, a country of 12 million people, according to government data.
Local news reports indicate that several of the injured are in serious condition, with emergency responders working to provide medical care.
