Kwame Baah Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), was reportedly forced out of his office on Thursday, January 9, by a group believed to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) task force.
The group stormed the NSA offices at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, demanding that Mensah vacate his position and surrender both his office keys and official vehicle.
The action appeared to have the tacit approval of many NSA staff members, who expressed satisfaction with the development.
Some staff accused Mensah of victimizing employees, withholding allowances, engaging in corrupt practices, and fostering poor working relationships during his tenure.
Officers from the Asokwa District Police Command were deployed to the scene to maintain order. They eventually escorted Mensah from the premises in a private vehicle, ensuring his safety amid the tense atmosphere.
In a dramatic twist, jubilant staff members reportedly insisted that Mensah should not be allowed to leave with packs of bottled water from his office, arguing that they were purchased with NSA funds.
This incident has drawn attention to tensions within the NSA and raised questions about the alleged misconduct and its impact on the Authority’s operations. Neither Mensah nor the NDC has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
