Ashanti Region: Nahinso Chief Arrested for Unauthorized Road Works

Officials from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly have arrested Nana Addo Boaman, the Chief of Nahinso, for carrying out road works without official permission.

The Chief, who was granted bail over the weekend, claimed he initiated the road repairs due to the authorities’ failure to address the deteriorating road conditions, which have caused persistent flooding and difficulties for motorists and residents.

Residents and motorists in Nahinso, a community within the Asokwa Municipality bordering the Bosomtwi District and Oforikrom Municipality, have long complained about the poor road network. The incomplete road construction, particularly the abandoned drains, has exacerbated their challenges.

Pits created by alleged sand-winning activities further threaten road users, often leading to flooding and affecting nearby houses.

In response, Nana Addo Boaman began filling the pits and repairing the road to improve its condition. However, officials from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly intervened, stating that he lacked the necessary permissions.

The Chief was subsequently arrested by the police at the Asokwa District Command but was later released on bail. Despite the arrest and ongoing threats, Nana Boaman remains determined to continue his efforts to fix the road.
