The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery incident that resulted in the death of a miner at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified as Rahman Adams, also known as Wale, was arrested on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Pomposo following an intelligence-led police operation.
The arrest is linked to a residential robbery that occurred on December 12, 2025, when armed assailants attacked a house at Asonkore. Police officers who responded to the incident found the body of a 42-year-old miner inside the residence.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers gained entry by cutting through a burglar-proof window. They allegedly made away with GH¢2,600 in cash, a laptop, and a vehicle ignition key, and assaulted the victim during the robbery.
One other suspect, identified as A.T., a Nigerian national believed to have played a leading role in the robbery and murder, is currently on the run. Items retrieved from the crime scene included hammers, machetes, and cutters.
The body of the deceased was deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations, while police continue efforts to arrest the remaining accomplices to face justice.
