Ashanti Region: 16 Feared Dead in Ambulance–Ford Collision at Potrikrom

At least 16 people are feared dead following a head-on collision between an ambulance and a Ford Transit bus at Potrikrom in the Ahafo-Ano South East District of the Ashanti Region.

The vehicles involved were an ambulance with registration number GV 527–23 and a Ford Transit bus with registration number GT 6576–19.

Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred when the two vehicles, reportedly travelling at high speed, approached each other from opposite directions. The Ford Transit bus was believed to be travelling from Kumasi to Bechem at the time.

Preliminary accounts suggest the ambulance, reportedly belonging to St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital in Drobo, attempted to overtake another vehicle but failed to complete the manoeuvre, resulting in the fatal collision. Several passengers aboard the bus are feared to have died instantly.

Officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department conveyed the victims to mortuaries at Mankranso and Adugyama.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, expressed condolences to the bereaved families, describing the incident as tragic and extending sympathies to those affected.

Authorities have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash.
