Ashanti Region: Three Arrested Over Killing of Kusasi Chief in Asawase

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged killing of a Kusasi Chief in Asawase in July 2025.

The suspects have been identified as Jamil Usman, also known as Babamu or Guru, Suleman Yasir Arafat, alias Obasanjo, and Ashiadu Sumbeida, also known as Eyeshadow.

Addressing the media in Bekwai on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, stated that arrangements are underway to transfer the suspects to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigations.

He disclosed that a key suspect identified as Illiasu, also known as Abodam, is still on the run and appealed to the public to provide information that could lead to his arrest.

According to the police, two AK-47 assault rifles, one pump-action gun, two pistols, and 44 rounds of .32 ammunition were retrieved during the operation.

The Regional Commander noted that the arrests and the weapons recovered highlight the intensity of ongoing police efforts to combat violent crime in the area.

He also expressed appreciation to the Ghana Police Service leadership, particularly the Inspector-General of Police, for continued support, and commended officers involved in the operation for their dedication, while acknowledging the role of the public in providing critical intelligence.
