Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Dies at 86

The Bretuo Family and the Asante Mampong Traditional Council have formally informed the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of the death of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Paramount Chief of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, in line with Ashanti traditional rites.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II passed away last week after a brief illness. Born Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie on December 31, 1939, he was an alumnus of Prempeh College and the University of Ghana, Legon. Before his enstoolment on August 25, 1996, he served as Registrar of KNUST and practiced law.

During his 26-year reign, Daasebre brought remarkable development and maintained peace and stability in the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area. Notably, he was the only Paramount Chief installed since 1930 under whom the area experienced no chieftaincy disputes.

Traditional leaders and family members, dressed in black, conveyed the news to the Asantehene and Asantehemaa, with Queenmother Nana Agyakoma Difie and Ejisu Queenmother Yaa Asantewaa II among the delegation.
